Anderson Optimization is pleased to announce our new AO Capacity product developed in partnership with Continuum Associates: a best-in-class transmission & capacity consultant with hundreds of years of combined experience performing capacity and injection analysis. Continuum uses industry-standard modeling best practices and market expertise to generate capacity studies. AO Capacity will provide geolocated buses and lines with associated capacity values so that AO users can view capacity values and seamlessly site and find parcels near optimal POIs with the most available capacity.

Why use AO Capacity?

AO Capacity is delivered as ready-to-use map layers which are geolocated by bus and transmission line; no one-off, non-geolocated CSV files or KMZs that have to be integrated into your siting process.

Data & Process

Continuum performs injection studies for every bus within the entire area of interest to ensure best accuracy and completeness. Capacity data includes a robust suite of additional powerflow analysis outputs such as load and generation characteristics. We always use the latest powerflow case available from an ISO and then model the projects with a high certainty of completion.
For each ISO, you'll receive detailed study assumptions that reference the specific powerflow model used and what assumptions Continuum has made to calculate the capacities.

Pricing

Our goal is to match standard industry pricing while providing additional value.
  • Single states are $25-35k per year; this price includes multiple studies per year via ongoing updates any time new base case studies are released.
    • Discounts will be provided for any purchases made before Jan 1, 2023.
  • Bulk discounts are included for multi-state, full ISO, and nationwide purchases. Please reach out to discuss custom packages.

FAQs

Which power flow studies are used in the analysis?

We always use the latest power flow case available from an ISO and then model the projects with a high certainty of completion.
For each ISO, you'll receive detailed study assumptions that reference the specific power flow model used and what assumptions Continuum has made to calculate the capacities.

Is the analysis historical or future-looking?

The grid injection modeling is future-looking.

Do you model the whole queue for an ISO?

We model the projects with a high certainty of completion. Modeling the entire queue is very unrealistic since most of the projects in a queue in the feasibility study stage and system impact study stage will withdraw from the queue (well over 75% to 80% of projects in these stages are withdrawn).To perform this analysis with high certainty, we tend to model only the projects in the queue that have Interconnection Agreement signed or at a minimum have completed Facilities Study.

Do you have LMP modeling / economic modeling?

Not yet, but this is planned for the future. The modeling will be nodal and highly granular. For zonal markets, we may provide the basis difference indexed to the particular trading zone in that specific market. For a nodal market, we will provide basis difference indexed to the proxy node.
